The administrative director overseeing all of the daily activities on-site in Guatemala is Sandra Archila Valdez. Sandra manages the after school tutoring program in general, and is directly in charge of the entire staff. Our administrative staff has grown to include 8 people who provide secretarial skills, bookkeeping, recording and managing of the individual expenses of each scholarship recipient, and the control and distribution of resources stored in our supply room.

To all those who have contributed to the success of Education and Hope: thank you for making me the person that I am today. Thank you for helping make the dreams come true of the children who long to be doctors, teachers, artists and dancers. Thank you for converting your donations into the happiness of so many mothers that every day have a reason to open their eyes, knowing that they have a friend to count on. Thank you for allowing your support to become the pride of our teachers tutoring our students. Thank you for opening your hearts and showing us that love truly exists in the world.

Education and Hope is the home I never had. It contributes to my academic and moral formation and is the motor to help me achieve my dreams, both short term and long term. In the futures I want to be able to help other people in need by generating employment. I hope to create my own business to help single women and widows by teaching them skills so that they can have their own means of income to support their homes. I want to share my knowledge with the children of my community so that our country can excel. (Catarina del Carmen Chan Chan, administration staff/university student, age 21)
In so many ways Education and Hope has been like a home to me because it is here that I have learned about life, love, respect and everything good that exists in the world. My life would not be as beautiful without Education and Hope, and I am grateful to Julie for bringing that beauty into my life. Thank you to all who have made it possible that so many of us have the resources we need to be able to study. Even though I didn’t end up becoming the astronaut that I dreamed of being at ten years old when I first received my scholarship, I am very happy being who I am: a good person who now has the great opportunity to live a better life and find a good job. And all of this is thanks to those of you, and to Julie, who have given so much to help us.

Education and Hope has transformed my life completely. It is an enormous blessing that truly represents hope in my life. What a magnificent thing that there could be someone who without knowing you, supports you; without talking to you, understands you; without seeing you, believes in you; and without knowing who you are or where you come from, knows that you will achieve great things and offers you the opportunity to do so.
